John Stamos revealed a sage piece of advice he learned from Bob Saget in one of their final moments spent together before his passing in 2022: “Order the cake.”

In a preview clip from his upcoming interview with Willie Geist on Sunday TODAY, Stamos discussed the last dinner he had with his late Full House co-star, who died at age 65 after suffering head trauma.

“We’re always in a hurry to go somewhere next,” he explained. “It was the last dinner, and you never think, ‘This is the last time I’m going to see my best friend.'”

Reflecting on his final moments with Saget, Stamos said, “He was calm, he listened, and he didn’t talk about himself that much. And believe me, I was just as much a pain in the ass as he was in different ways.”

Nonetheless, Stamos “realized” that he himself had “grown too, that night.” He recalled that instead of judging Saget for taking twenty minutes to secure the perfect picture of the two of them, he “just laughed at him that night.”

Stamos then recalled a particular joke of Saget’s that he heard after asking him to host his father’s funeral: “Tonight’s specials are cake and cock, and we’re out of cake.”

While this joke may initially be perceived as crude, it ultimately led to a special moment between the two actors.

“So when we go to the restaurant that night, we’re with our wives,” he shared. “They were talking, and we were like, ‘How did two saps like us get lucky enough to have these two beautiful — inside and out — women?'”

He continued, “I was thinking, ‘We got to go.’ And then he said, ‘Well, let’s order the cake,’” referencing the joke.

This prompted the two of them to order dessert and coffee.

“I realized, when you are with someone that you love, that you care about, slow down. Take it easy. Order the cake,” he expressed.

Geist found it “extraordinary” that “something was telling [him] to order the cake,” prolonging what would be some of their final moments together. Stamos deemed this as “one of those interesting moments,” and noted that Saget’s death is “still very difficult” to navigate.
