The Super Bowl Gets Slimed: Super Bowl LVIII Will Broadcast on Nickelodeon for Kids, Too

Gather around, kiddos. In 2024, you’ll be able to enjoy the Super Bowl, too.

In a surprising move, Paramount Global just announced Nickelodeon will be getting its own “slime-filled” telecast of Super Bowl LVIII. Families will be able to enjoy “next-level, eye-popping on-field graphics, guest reporters, virtual filters and more,” in this alternate broadcast that is set to air concurrently with CBS Sports.

“This will be a historic Super Bowl in Las Vegas, and we’re thrilled to partner with the NFL to bring the game to the whole family with the first-ever alternate telecast of the Super Bowl,” Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Paramount, said in a statement.

The release noted that the move is part of the company’s new deal with the NFL, and teased that this could be just the first step in using their portfolio of streamers and networks to broadcast games. This could mean kids will soon be able to tune into episodes of Spongebob Squarepants and the latest NFL games on the same network.

“Our previous telecasts on Nickelodeon have been huge hits and created a new and different way to experience an NFL game,” Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice president of media distribution said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring that creativity to Super Bowl LVIII and give our fans another way to enjoy one of the world’s most popular sporting events.”

It’s clear that there’s going to be a lot of slime at this upcoming Super Bowl, but this new audience could also open up additional advertisement opportunities. Families may expect to get their own cache of Super Bowl commercials, which have become a cultural moment of their own in recent years.

Viewers at home can get a glimpse of what to expect at the 2024 Super Bowl later this year, when the network will air the “slime-filled Christmas Day game” between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs, called the Nickelodeon NFL Nickmas Game. This special telecast will air Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. ET.

CBS previously received two sports Emmy Awards for the 2021 Super Wild Card Weekend that aired on Nickelodeon, which featured similarly family friendly content.

The Nickelodeon telecast will also have a delayed broadcast in New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K. The Super Bowl will also be streaming on Paramount+ and NFL+.

More details are to come.

Super Bowl LVIII will air on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024 at 6:30 pm ET.
