Director Shawn Levy Claims Taylor Swift “Has The Makings Of A Hell Of A Director”: “A Generational Voice And Creative Force”

If Taylor Swift hasn’t received enough praise in the wake of her history-making Eras Tour, Shawn Levy declared her to be a “generational voice and creative force,” and even compared her work to one of Hollywood’s biggest directors: Steven Spielberg.

The Stranger Things director had roles reversed when he was directed by Swift in her All Too Well: The Short Film, portraying Swift’s (Sadie Sink) father who was “charmed” by the “self-effacing jokes” of one of Swift’s exes (reportedly Jake Gyllenhaal, but played by Dylan O’Brien).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy said that “Taylor has not consulted [him] about upcoming directing projects, but [he] think[s] she has the makings of a hell of a director.”

“Taylor, the depth of her vision for how she wants a creative piece to be, whether it’s a lyric, a melody, a bridge, a concert tour, a video, it’s profound,” he said. “It’s profoundly vivid, and she has the strength of her convictions.”

Levy then recalled being on the set of the 2011 action film Real Steel alongside Spielberg.

“I said to him, ‘How do you know it’s the right shot?'” he said. “His answer was, ‘The way you see it, that makes it right.'”

He added that he thinks that’s something “Swift has figured out really well” — maybe even all too well? — “because that’s about trusting your instinct.”

According to Variety, Levy was one of “the lucky ones” that joined Swift at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Oct. 1, and he revealed that it was Ryan Reynolds who invited him and Hugh Jackman to tag along and root for Swift’s rumored Romeo, Travis Kelce.

“I could make 50 more hit movies and shows, and I’ll still be known as the guy in the orange suede jacket going to the Chiefs-Jets game with Taylor [Swift] and others,” he quipped to the outlet. “Nothing prepared us for the frenzy of attention that was that outing. Very fun night… I’ve known famous people, but Taylor is definitely a culture magnet unlike anything I’ve seen.”
