Disney’s live-action Snow White movie might be getting some competition. After the company received backlash from conservatives, The Daily Wire — a right-wing media company — decided it would be making its own live-action rendition of the tale titled Snow White and the Evil Queen.

While there is no release date just yet, The Daily Wire released a teaser of the movie to its X (formerly known as Twitter) feed. The 50-second trailer unveils YouTuber Brett Cooper, who hosts The Comments Section With Brett Cooper, as the classic Disney princess.

“I was raised on the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales, so I’m thrilled that we’re bringing this iconic story to life for the next generation!” Cooper said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Snow White is such a beautiful character, and I’m honored to be playing her. Like all the best fairy tales, this is a story with timeless values, like love, friendship, and kindness, and I can’t wait to share them.”

Conservatives initially took issue with Disney’s version of the film when Latina actor Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White, a character who is originally described as having “skin as white as snow.” The backlash only grew when Zegler opened up about the modern twist on the movie, which is set to release in March 2024.

“It’s no longer 1937,” Zegler told Variety. “She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.”

She continued, “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true. So, it’s just a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in.”

According to The Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, Snow White and the Evil Queen will be more on brand with the original Brothers Grimm story.

“It’s a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life,” he said, per THR. “It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale.”

Boreing, who hopes to take on Disney+, announced the film at the launch of Bentkey, which is The Daily Wire’s new entertainment app for kids.

“It’s taken 100 years to build Disney,” Boreing said. “We know we aren’t what Disney is today, but we hope in time we might become what they were, once upon a time: a little studio with big ideas and the courage to chase them â€Ĥ While Disney still uses Walt’s name, they have all but abandoned his legacy.”
