The Exorcist: Believer

Powered by Reelgood

With it being Halloween next week, perhaps the power of Christ compels you to watch a scary movie… if that’s the case, I suggest checking out The Exorcist: Believer, the new film from David Gordon Green that finally brings Ellen Burstyn back to the franchise. If you’re compelled to watch something less demonic, you can check out The Royal Hotel, the new thriller starring Julia Garner and Jessick Henwick as backpackers who are short on cash and find work at an Australian bar filled with drunk locals whose presence alone is sinister.

And if you’re still possessed by the spirit of Halloween, there’s the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired Suitable Flesh, in which Heather Graham stars as a therapist named Elizabeth Derby who is working with a patient named Asa (Judah Lewis). After witnessing Asa have an out of body experience that might just be the result of a demon possession, Elizabeth digs deeper into Asa’s family life. The deeper she pries, the more she herself becomes a target of the demon.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.

The Exorcist: Believer

The Exorcist: Believer is the sixth film that bears the Exorcist name, but this one serves as a direct sequel to the original, and it marks the return of Ellen Burstyn to the franchise. It’s been a whopping 50 years since Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) was possessed by the devil, and in this new story, her mother Chris (Burstyn), now an expert in all things evil-spirit-related, helps two more young girls who are believed to have made contact with a demon after performing a séance and are now possessed.

The Royal Hotel

Hanna (Julia Garner) and Liv (Jessicak Henwick) are two friends whose backpacking adventure in Australia hits a snag when they run out of cash. While it at first seems like a great idea to accept temporary jobs at a bar in a remote little mining village, the toxic culture of leering drunk men who populate the place becomes unnerving for the two women who have no cell service or access to help, as the situation grows more dangerous and unsettling by the day.
