New Fall Shows 2023: Reject the Re-Runs With 27 New And Returning Shows on Netflix, Apple TV+, Prime Video, and More

Where to Stream:

Virgin River

Powered by Reelgood

The Fall 2023 TV season might feel a little different than it has in years gone by. Thanks to the AMPTP’s inability to negotiate with the WGA writers and SAG-AFTRA actors on strike, network TV is rife with reality programming, game shows, and reruns. However, in the world of streaming, there are still a bunch of new and returning gems to get hyped for. Yes, there are new fall TV shows. There are even some amazing TV shows coming back this fall. All you need to do is to turn to streaming…

Netflix has a whole slew of exciting new fall TV shows in 2023, from the Scott Pilgrim show, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, to Shawn Levy’s lavish adaptation of the bestseller All the Light We Cannot See. Prime Video continues its foray into sick superhero storytelling with The Boys spin-off Gen V and the long-awaited return of Invincible. Hulu‘s got The Other Black Girl on the docket along with a long list of incredible FX titles, including A Murder at the End of the World, a new murder mystery from the creators of the canceled Netflix show The OA.

Still not enough amazing new fall TV for you? Apple TV+ is spoiling subscribers with the return of The Morning Show followed by an onslaught of star-studded new shows including the docu-series The Super Models, an adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry, a new take on Edith Wharton’s The Buccaneers, and the Godzilla show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

From Loki Season 2 on Disney+ to the Roiland-less return of Rick and Morty, here is your guide to all the new fall TV shows and returning faves to watch in 2023…

  1. Virgin River Season 5 Part 1

Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan and Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe in 'Virgin River'
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: September 7

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Annette O’Toole

Why We’re Hyped: One of our favorite Netflix comfort watches is coming back just in time for cozy Autumn binge season. Grab a mug of cocoa (or a glass of wine), snuggle under your favorite throw blanket, and press play on your remote. It’s time to return to the wholesome, but soapy, world of Virgin River. Also exciting? Ten episodes of the new season will drop on September 7 with the final two installments arriving in late November.

  2. The Morning Show Season 3

Jennifer Aniston in 'The Morning Show' Season 3
    Photo: Apple TV+

    Release Date: September 13

    Streaming Service: Apple TV+

Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Jon Hamm

Why We’re Hyped: Apple TV+’s The Morning Show is one of the most star-studded and bonkers soap operas on TV today. Season 2 brought Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) out of the closet, pushed Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) off an Italian cliff, and saddled Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) with COVID on a livestream. What insanity will happen in Season 3?

  3. The Other Black Girl

Sinclair Daniel and Ashleigh Murray in The Other Black Girl
    Photo: Hulu

    Release Date: September 13

    Streaming Service: Hulu

Cast: Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish

Why We’re Hyped: The Other Black Girl is a comedy/drama/horror series based on the bestselling book of the same name. Nella (Sinclair Daniel) is an editorial assistant at a fancy publishing company who is initially excited when Hazel-May (Ashleigh Murray) arrives at the company. However the friendship that forms between the two young Black women soon turns into a creepy rivalry. Think The Devil Wears Prada meets Get Out to understand why this could be our next favorite binge.

  4. Southern Charm Season 9

Southern Charm Season 9 cast photo
    Photo: Bravo

    Release Date: September 14

    Streaming Service: Peacock

Cast: Craig Conover, Shep Rose, Leva Bonaparte, Taylor Ann Green

Why We’re Hyped: There’s no denying that Team Decider are big Bravo buffs and Southern Charm continues to be one of our favorite reality soaps. Devotees of the Charleston-set show are eager to see the fallout of Taylor Ann Green’s alleged tryst with ex-boyfriend Shep Rose’s bestie Austen Kroll. And if VPR has taught us one thing, it’s that there’s no greater Bravo drama than incestuous dating drama, is there?

  5. The Great British Baking Show Season 11

Noel smirking in 'The Great British Baking Show' "Biscuit Week"
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: September

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding, Allison Hammond

Why We’re Hyped: Even though the last few seasons of The Great British Baking Show have left a bitter taste in our mouths, we have reason to hope for better things in the tent in 2023. Matt Lucas, who never fully jived with the show’s sunny energy, has exited the tent and the effervescent Allison Hammond is his replacement. Consider us stoked to tune in on weekends sometime this September.

  6. The Super Models

Naomi Campbell in 'The Super Models'
    Photo: Apple TV+

    Release Date: September 20

    Streaming Service: Apple TV+

Cast: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Chrisy Turlington

Why We’re Hyped: Long before reality stars walked runways or influencers sold designer goods, fashion was ruled by the supermodels. The supermodels of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s had a chokehold on pop culture that is difficult to understand today and a new Apple TV+ docuseries attempts to explore how a group of glamazons came to rule the world.

  7. American Horror Story: Delicate

Kim Kardashian in 'American Horror Story: Delicate'
    Photo: FX/Hulu

    Release Date: September 20

    Streaming Service: FX on Hulu

Cast: Emma Roberts, Cara Delevingne, Kim Kardashian

Why We’re Hyped: You never know what to expect with a new season of American Horror Story, but this year’s installment of the anthology series is taking risks like never before. Ryan Murphy is no longer the showrunner, the story is based on a yet-to-be-published book, and, most radically, Kim Kardashian will star.

  8. Sex Education Season 4

Emma Mackey in 'Sex Education' Season 4
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: September 21

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey

Why We’re Hyped: Sex Education is one of the most brilliant and influential shows of the last decade…and it’s coming — no pun intended — to an end. The students of Moordale are finally graduating to a new chapter of their lives. The main gang are at Cavendish Sixth Form College, while Maeve (Emma Mackey) is going to college in the US. What sexual hijinks will our favorite characters get up to now? What hookups and breakups will drive us insane? And can the series end on a high note, letting its cast of rising stars go in style?

  9. Starstruck Season 3

    Starstruck Season 3 key art
    Photo: Max

    Release Date: September 28

    Streaming Service: Max

Cast: Rose Matafeo, Nikesh Patel, Minnie Driver, John Simm

Why We’re Hyped: The first two seasons of Starstruck are one of the most endearing, hilarious, and swoon-worthy seasons of TV we’ve ever seen. Sure, we’re gutted that Rose Matafeo’s beloved show is coming to an end with Season 3, but we’re ride or die for this lovely series. Wherever Rose Matafeo goes, we will follow.

  10. The Golden Bachelor

    'The Golden Bachelor'
    Photo: ABC

    Release Date: September 28

Streaming Service: ABC (Hulu Next Day)

Cast: Gerry Turner and 22 Beauties Over the Age of 22, Including Matt James’s Mom, Patty

Why We’re Hyped: On paper, The Golden Bachelor sounds insane. A 70-something widower goes on reality TV looking for love in his twilight years. And when we were finally introduced to the contestants — including former Bachelor star Matt James’s MOM — we were just more convinced this is a wild idea. Nevertheless, The Golden Bachelor could be just the burst of fresh air that the flagging Bachelor franchise needs. Maybe we need more Metamucil and pickle ball in our reality romance and fewer hot and heavy hookups.

  11. Gen V

    Gen V
    Photo: Amazon Studios

    Release Date: September 29

    Streaming Service: Prime Video

Cast: Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips

Why We’re Hyped: Prime Video’s The Boys is the profane superhero satire show we love and its wild and raucous universe is finally expanding to tackle the teens! We’re expecting Gen V to be very bit the horny, gory, and deliciously addictive watch The Boys is — maybe only more so? Perhaps even more exciting for fans of teen genre shows, though, is the fact that Gen V will reunite Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Jaz Sinclair and Chance Perdomo. Only this time they’re the stars and not the sidekicks.

  12. Our Flag Means Death Season 2

Taika Waititi in 'Our Flag Means Death' Season 2
    Photo: Max

    Release Date: October 5

    Streaming Service: Max

Cast: Rhys Darby, Taika Waititi, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz

Why We’re Hyped: Our Flag Means Death Season 1 pitched itself to viewers as an offbeat pirate comedy, but it soon won the hearts of legions of fans by turning into a swoon-worthy romance. When the quirky Kiwi-produced series returns to Max this fall, viewers won’t just get to sail the seas with a hilarious crew, but they’ll get to find out what happens next to Captain Ed “Blackbeard” Teach (Taika Waititi) and Captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby).

  13. Loki Season 2

    Photo: Disney+

    Release Date: October 6

    Streaming Service: Disney+

Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Ke Huy Quan

Why We’re Hyped: Loki is the first Marvel Disney+ show to get a second season and with good reason. Loki Season 1 was a thrilling and inventive yarn full of fabulous performances and smart twists. Now we’ll follow the titular trickster god as he deals with the fallout of Sylvie’s (Sophia Di Martino) decision to kill “He Who Remains” (Jonathan Majors) at the end of Season 1. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) now finds himself in a multiverse gone haywire — and potentially ruled by the villainous Kang (also Jonathan Majors).

  14. The Fall of the House of Usher

Fall of the House of Usher
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: October 12

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel

Why We’re Hyped: Writer-director Mike Flanagan has established himself as Netflix’s “King of Horror” with inventive adaptations of classics like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Now Flanagan and his beloved stable of actors tackle Edgar Allan Poe. In this new version of the tale, a super wealthy big Pharma family starts dropping like flies…all victims of a mysterious woman with a vendetta. Something tells us that this Halloween season is going to be extra creepy thanks to Flanagan & Co…

  15. Lessons in Chemistry

    Lessons in Chemistry
    Photo: Apple TV+

    Release Date: October 13

    Streaming Service: Apple TV+

Cast: Brie Larson, Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King

Why We’re Hyped: Lessons in Chemistry stars Oscar-winner Brie Larson as Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant scientist who finds herself wedged into the role of a cooking show host thanks to the sexism of 1950s and 1960s culture. Elizabeth uses her platform, however, to teach her audience of housewives how to do more than just ace a casserole. With its mid-century aesthetics, offbeat heroine, and feminist overtones, Lessons in Chemistry just might be the first real successor series to Netflix’s super hit The Queen’s Gambit.

  16. Rick and Morty Season 7

    Rick-and-Morty-S7
    Photo: Adult Swim

    Release Date: October 15

    Streaming Service: Adult Swim

Cast: Spencer Grammer, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell

Why We’re Hyped: It’s always a big deal when the uber-popular Rick and Morty returns to the small screen, but this new season is going to be an even bigger deal for fans. That’s because creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland has been ousted from the series because of misconduct. Can the show keep its idiosyncratic voice with a new showrunner? Can Adult Swim find a seamless replacement for the voices of the titular Rick and Morty? Will grown men continue to throw tantrums in public, crying, “I’m Pickle Rick!”?? We’ll have to wait and see!

  17. Fellow Travelers

Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer in bed together in 'Fellow Travelers'
    Photo: Showtime

    Release Date: October 27

    Streaming Service: Showtime

Cast: Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, Jelani Alladin, Allison Williams

Why We’re Hyped: Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey are two of our finest actors working today and Showtime is letting them sink their teeth into an epic, decades-sprawling love story. Fellow Travelers tells the tale of two closeted lovers whose lives intertwine as they both attempt to pursue political power in D.C. during the rise of McCarthyism. We’re sure that the story is going to be powerful enough on its own, but early teasers suggest that Jonathan Bailey is bringing some of that Bridgerton energy into the romantic series.

  18. The Gilded Age Season 2

Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector in The Gilded Age S2
    Photo: HBO

    Release Date: October 29

    Streaming Service: Max

Cast: Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon

Why We’re Hyped: The Gilded Age Season 1 was a decadent soap opera that we couldn’t stop watching — and occasionally raging — about. (TOM RAIKES WAS THE WORST!) The Gilded Age Season 2 is set to return with a new time slot, Sunday night, and a whole new expanded cast of characters played by Broadway elites. Soon we will be able to escape once more to a glittering world of opulence and romance. Again we will dine with the hottest couple on TV: George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon)! And the best part? There will be no more Mr. Raikes!

  19. All the Light We Cannot See

Young Marie and her dad in 'All the Light We Cannot See'
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: November 2

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Aria Mia Loberti, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, Louis Hofmann

Why We’re Hyped: All the Light We Cannot See has all the makings of a true fall obsession. It’s based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, set in Nazi-occupied France, and starring newcomer Aria Mia Loberti as a blind heroine defiantly standing up to the invasion of evil. There’s also a plot about a missing jewel, a couple of iconic movie stars playing supporting roles, and a recurring nod to everyone’s favorite piano solo, Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” To put it bluntly, this is Netflix’s big fall tentpole, which means everyone will be binging it.

  20. Invincible Season 2

    invincible season 2
    Photo: Prime Video

    Release Date: November 3

    Streaming Service: Prime Video

Cast: Steven Yeun, J. K. Simmons, Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen

Why We’re Hyped: The first season of Invincible was a big, surprise breakthrough hit, building on Amazon’s anarchic superhero show The Boys, albeit in animation. It went hard emotionally, action-wise, and had an all-star, killer voice cast, based on the comics by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman… And then it went away for two years. With the show’s big twist involving J.K. Simmons’ Omni-Man finally out in the open, it seems like the show might blow the roof off in Season 2. Plus, fan theories are swirling that Season 2 might guest-star… Spider-Man? Consider us hyped. – Alex Zalben

  21. The Buccaneers

    Kristine Froseth in 'The Buccaneers'
    Photo: Apple TV+

    Release Date: November 8

    Streaming Service: Apple TV+

Cast: Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Christina Hendricks

Why We’re Hyped: Sanditon (it seems) is finally over, Outlander is on hiatus until 2024, and with no word of when Netflix will drop Bridgerton Season 3, the period drama girlies need something to get swoon-y about. Could that show be Apple TV+’s bold new adaptation of Edith Wharton’s final unfinished novel, The Buccaneers? Early teases suggest it’s going to be more Bridgerton than Masterpiece Theatre, but that could be the sumptuous escape we need as the nights get darker and longer this fall…

  22. A Murder at the End of the World

Emma Corrin in 'A Murder at the End of the World'
    Photo: FX

    Release Date: November 14

    Streaming Service: FX onHulu

Cast: Emma Corrin, Clive Owen, Brit Marling, Harris Dickinson

Why We’re Hyped: Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij, the masterminds behind cult smash The OA, are putting their mark on the classic murder mystery genre. Emma Corrin plays a Gen Z sleuth and hacker named Darby Hart. When Darby is invited to a remote locale by a mysterious billionaire, she soon finds herself in an Agatha Christie-like murder mystery adventure when another one of the guests is found dead. Could Darby Hart be the next Benoit Blanc? We’re definitely hoping so.

  23. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

    Scott-Pilgrim-Takes-Off-Netflix
    Photo: Netflix

    Release Date: November 17

    Streaming Service: Netflix

Cast: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans

Why We’re Hyped: Edgar Wright’s 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is as much beloved for the way it brought Bryan Lee O’Malley’s unique graphic novels to life as it is for its iconic cast. So consider us hyped for Netflix’s upcoming animated Scott Pilgrim series that features every one of the original film’s actors reprising their original roles. If we have one nerdy request, it’s the hope that this time around Brie Larson gets to sing as rock star Envy Adams instead of getting dubbed.

  24. Fargo Season 5

Jon Hamm in 'Fargo' Season 5
    Photo: FX

    Release Date: November 23

    Streaming Service: FX on Hulu

Cast: Juno Temple, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Joe Keery

Why We’re Hyped: Noah Hawley’s dark and twisted crime series is just about unparalleled for its elegant approach to drama and even more radically brilliant casting choices. This season, Ted Lasso sweetheart Juno Temple returns to her drama roots as a Minnesota housewife who soon finds her life unraveling. Jon Hamm plays the lawman/preacher out to get Temple’s character and Stranger Things’s Joe Keery steps up as his hapless son.

  25. Doctor Who Specials

David Tennant and Yasmin Finney in 'Doctor Who'
    Photo: BBC

    Release Date: November

    Streaming Service: Disney+

Cast: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Ncuti Gatwa, Yasmin Finney

Why We’re Hyped: Three original Doctor Who specials are on the way this November to close out one era of the British sci-fi series and to set up a whole new generation in the T.A.R.D.I.S. Fan favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate are returning to the time travel series — hopefully to finally the right the wrongs done years ago to Tate’s companion Donna Noble. However younger fans might find themselves even more hyped to see Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney play a character intriguingly named “Rose Tyler” before Tennant hands the sonic screwdriver over to new Doctor, Sex Education and Barbie star Ncuti Gatwa. Doctor Who is finally traveling into the future.

  26. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Anna Sawai in 'Monarch: Legacy of Monsters'
    Photo: Apple TV+

    Release Date: Fall 2023

    Streaming Service: Apple TV+

Cast: Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons

Why We’re Hyped: Apple TV+ has steadily been building a name for itself as the premiere place to stream lavish and inventive genre television. Which means there’s every reason to expect Monarch: Legacy of Monsters — a high budget, live action Godzilla series — to rule. Adding to our confidence is the fact that its written by comics great Matt Fraction, directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, and starring real life father and son Kurt and Wyatt Russell as older and younger versions of the same hero.

  27. Percy Jackson & The Olympians

Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri in 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians'
    Photo: Disney

    Release Date: December 20

    Streaming Service: Disney+

Cast: Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Lance Reddick

Why We’re Hyped: Rick Riordin’s Percy Jackson books have been adapted before, but to middling results. Now the author has partnered with Disney+ to bring the series to new life. While seeing Riordin’s name attached to the show might be enough to encourage hard core fans, non-book readers should be excited that Disney+ is so confident in the new series that it’s getting a plum holiday slot to close out the streamer’s 2023 slate. Not only that, but it features an all-star cast of supporting players in the roles of various Olympian gods, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jay Duplass, Jason Mantzoukas, and the great Lance Reddick in his final TV appearance as Zeus.
