‘The Great British Baking Show’: Rowan Warms His “Cream” in a Most Raunchy Way Imaginable

The Great British Baking Show loves a dirty double entendre. It’s the only Netflix show that can simultaneously celebrate soggy bottoms, hot buns, and lady’s beavers, while also being decidedly rated G. But there was one baker who was particularly randy during this week’s Technical Challenge. 21-year-old Rowan Claughton not only distracted neighbor Cristy Sharp by, uh, “warming” his “cream” in an all-too phallic looking way, but he also gleefully divided his Custard Cream biscuits into “tops” and “bottoms.” Within the context of The Great British Baking Show “Biscuit Week” Technical Challenge, this all made sense. Nevertheless, both moments made us do a bigger double take than any kerfuffle involving Rowan and Cristy’s dough.

Let’s just say that Rowan was the randiest baker on this week’s installment of The Great British Baking Show…but that also made him one of the most delightful.

There are many reasons we love The Great British Baking Show. It is an irrepressibly sweet show, full of kind-hearted bakers who just want to root for each other. It’s a window into the wider world of British and international cuisine. Oh, and there are naughty jokes. Many of them.

The first moment that had the tent in (blushing) hysterics this season came last week when judge Prue Leith asked Nicky Laceby to tell them about her “beaver.” Sure, Nicky made a beaver-inspired cake, but Prue’s phrasing was still regrettable. This week, Rowan gave us not one, but two naughty bits in the space of less than a minute.

Before we dive into that, though, we need to talk about how the producers hyped drama between Rowan and neighbor Cristy that ultimately turned out to be nothing. We were shown in the episodic preview that Cristy used Rowan’s biscuit dough by accident. Her horror at the faux pas, juxtaposed against composer Tom Howe’s iconic (and stressful) “Bakewell Counting,” led us to believe we were getting a rare bit of drama in the Bake Off tent. Not so! As it happens, Cristy only rolled out Rowan’s Custard Cream biscuit dough by accident, making it an easy fix. In fact, Rowan jested that Cristy did a better job than he would have. Phew!

Then, during the rush of biscuit assembly, Rowan cheekily mentioned he was dividing his biscuits into tops and bottoms. “This one’s gonna be a top, this one, bottom.” It’s pretty innocuous, that is until Cristy suddenly asks Rowan what he’s doing.

The camera cuts to Rowan holding a piping bag in a rather phallic way. One hand is wrapped around the bag, rubbing it up and down. Yellowy-beige cream peaks out of the tip. “I’m warming my cream!” he explains and, boy, is he!

Of course, Rowan immediately understands he’s fallen into one of the classic Bake Off traps. He’s innocently gone about his business in the tent only to accidentally give the producers something borderline dirty to edit into the episode. Not only that, but seeing Rowan warming his cream so immediately after the tops and bottoms moment casts that otherwise innocuous scene into a far more salacious light.

In reality, nothing Rowan did was purposefully naughty. He merely found himself in the Bake Off tent, a place so exquisitely wholesome that double entendres just naturally rise up like a loaf of bread. What Rowan did, though, was entertain us. He may not be this week’s Star Baker, but his sweet and silly double entendres made him a star in our Great British Baking Show-watching eyes.
